Europe's fastest growing car brand – Kia – is finally wading into Europe's biggest market with a serious contender. But with a joke of a name: the Cee'd. Kia claims the five-door hatchback will be the most spacious car in the C-segment, where it will do battle with the VW Golf, Ford Focus et al.
A YouTube video shows what appears to be the newest evolution of the hallowed De Tomaso Pantera. Caught leaving the De Tomaso factory in Grugliasco, Italy, the heavily camouflaged two-door coupe did not muffle the brawny engine sound. The rumor mill is speculating about a V8 powerplant sourced from Ford, like the original, and an aluminum body.
Ford Motor Co.'s future-product focus is on improved fuel economy by making its vehicles smaller and engines lighter without sacrificing performance, safety or luxury. It also wants to push the Ford brand more upscale to capture customers orphaned by the shutdown of the Mercury brand, and to attract new buyers with more product offerings. Ford has said 90 percent of its North American nameplates will be available with direct-injection turbocharged EcoBoost engines as standard equipment or as an option by 2013.
